USED PRODUCT sold as NEW!!!
First off, let me stress that this is NOT a review of the quality of the product itself. I do not want to tarnish Columbia in any way, as this is on Amazon. I purchased two pairs of Columbia hiking boots for me and my wife. Hers looked and felt great, but were unfortunately a half size too small. Mine, on the other hand, I realized were used after things kept adding up. The sellers went to great lengths to pass them off as new, but the telltale signs were there. First thing that didn’t sit right, was my wife and my shoes showed up in the same Amazon box, but while her shoes were in an original Columbia box, mine were simply put in a plastic bag. And my shoes had no tags anywhere on them, as hers did. Next, as I was looking at them, I noticed that her soles looked pristine, where as mine looked somewhat faded. As I looked closer, I noticed a lot of glue residue coming from the soles, almost as if it had been re-soled!! Then, as we were trying them on, my wife told me hers felt great with lots of spring on the insole. I told hers mine felt the exact opposite. Flat, and no support, and I could actually feel a toe groove in the front. The final straw came when I looked at my insole. The Columbia logo had worn off! Now, c’mon. This doesn’t happen from someone simply trying the shoe on and realizing it doesn’t fit. This comes from regular wear. The thing that angers me most, is that the sellers clearly worked to make this shoe look new and pass it off. Shame.

Ok, I did a ton of research on these before I bought them. I read all of the issues people were reporting with the boots not being waterproof and frankly I haven't had these issues at all. I wear them rucking around state and national parks near me, and I've worn them through reasonably sized puddles and in rain. Dry feet every time.

I bought these to replace a pair of Puma hikers that I have been wearing for years. They had big shoes to fill and so far they have been wonderful. I will say that they have a longer break-in period than I've had with other shoes, probably taking me regular 1-2 hour wear around the neighborhood for a couple weeks before I could stand multiple mile hikes in them. First attempt was a bust with serious blisters regardless of which socks I wore. Now I'm all set, regardless of sock choices! Just had to stretch them out I guess.

I found the tread to be aggressive enough to handle anything that my Midwest hiking can throw at me. We don't really have scree fields or deep mud where I hike, though loose dirt, slippery/wet rocks, and leaves are all a routine issue. Speaking of rocks, the soles are stiff enough (rock plate?) to not feel every pointy thing on the ground, which I appreciate. Any dirt, mud, etc has cleaned right off of them with no fuss.

After wearing these for a while I think I've decided that new insoles might be in order, but mostly because I'm not in love with the stock inserts even after breaking them in. That is about the only modification I've been pondering.

I love these boots. They felt a little narrow at first but after a day or two of wearing them they fit perfect with no blisters. They do have mesh on the top of the toe so dont think they will stay completely waterproof forever. Most of the time when people complain of water in their waterproof boots its sweat, large volumes of sweat not water coming in that gets mistaken for the boots leaking. If you want a boot that is 100% waterproof, get rubber boots not these or any other" waterproof " hiking boot. These boots are great for hiking, i just did a week on the Mason Dixon Trail with them and didnt get wet bc of leaks once. Your feet will sweat, they are waterproof , but they held up great for me so far. I will definatly get another pair when i wear these out.

They are a nice boot. Extremely lightweight. I can't judge the comfort since, like many others have noted, they run small. Very small in my opinion. I always take a 10.5 with boots or sneakers due to thicker socks. It was a very tight fit. I reordered a full size larger foregoing a half-size increase. Also noteworthy, the photo does not nearly represent the true color. I expected a near black "charcoal" as in the photo (viewed it on different monitors to be sure) and similar to charcoal suits I have worn and own. The true color is more a near light grey with darker grey accents. When I opened the box I assumed they sent the wrong item. However, I have decided the lighter color is OK and will do. While the boot may eventually rate higher, due to the ridiculous sizing and color issue I'll have to go with my rating.

*Update...Received the one full-size larger after sending back the 10.5. They are fine. Very comfortable now that they fit properly. They do also run a bit narrow. In all my years I have never seen sizing be so off. Half size, maybe. Full size? Maybe a few batches were mislabeled. The color is still far more grey than charcoal or near black like in the picture. In regard to the "water-proof" issue that others have questioned, I just sprayed them with a few coats of a heavy-duty water repellent spray for camping material, boots, etc. before wearing just in case.

Very breathable, good for humid conditions. I do have a doubt on it's performance in heavy rain. By looking at the upper surface, it feels like water can come inside easily, didn't test though.
