Poor seams
I loved the look and feel of this boot. Wore them for the first time today here in Northern California where the rain has just begun. I went for a walk around the block and my toes were wet. After careful inspection I found that the boot wasn't sealed. There are small holes along the seam allowing water to get in. I wish the company would inspect the product before shipping. Here are some pics to better show what I'm talking about. I would have given it a five star if it weren't for this.

    Despite being one full size larger than a regular shoe, I think these wellies do a great job at everything they're designed for. The upper calve portion is larger like other reviewers mention, but that's only to tuck in your pant legs properly. What's the point in rain boots if you're going to wear your pant legs outside the boot? Traction is good, style is not classic, and so far mud doesn't build up on the treads (so important with wellies!). If I had one complaint it's that the insole rides up after an hour or more of wearing them. It's not a big deal for me. I wanted to put in an insole with more cushion anyway, and new insoles usually have a better inside grip.

    This boot fits perfectly when you order one size down. I usually wear a US13 and I wear a US12 in the Midsund 2 Rain Boot. There is still about half an inch of room in front of my big toe. These kind of boots usually run big and I don't think its an issue. I tried the Servus brand on at Tractor Supply Co. and its the same story. You got get one size down for a good fit. Midsund 2 are reasonably comfortable but I feel the standard insoles are not sufficient. I fitted a brand new pair of the 'Dr. Scholl's Massaging Gel Work Insole' and now they are perfect. It was an extra $10 but its worth it. My feet fit nice and snug and I can work all day in comfort. The opening at the top of the boot is a bit wide but from what I see on hellyhansen.com, one would tuck their pants into the boots so that the pant bottoms don't get wet or muddy. Generally I like the simplicity in design of this boot. The Scandinavians know tasteful design. I thought the treads would be an issue when they get clogged with mud but its nothing a hose with a pressure nozzle can't fix. I was on my roof cleaning out the gutters and these boots offered very good traction. The roof has a 35 degree pitch and was not wet at the time. I would recommend these boots for garden work and for wearing out and about downtown on rainy days.

    Great Wellington boots! Despite other reviews, these are true to size. For regular shoes....boat shoes, loafers, dress shoes I'm a size 10.5 and for sneakers, sandals and boots I'm usually an 11. With these this is still true. The 10 was too small and returned them for the 11 which is perfect and has just enough extra room without my feet swimming. The top opening is perfect to tuck in your pants. The width is more narrow than some boots which is great since some brands are too wide for me. Jelly is definitely sized like other European brands....on the slimmer side. Great buy and one of the few quality rain boots out there for men!

    Side note: there are some options with these boots for half sizes. Based on how the size 11 fit, the 10.5 wouldn't have given me the flexibility to wear slightly thicker socks or have any flexibility....this is despite me having a regular show size of 10.5 so my suggestion is buy based on your sneaker or boot one now and figure on it being a bit slimmer.

    An excellent pair of boots. They are remarkably well contoured for my feet, fit very well, and provide a remarkable degree of traction in mud and slop.     I ordered size 9 after reading that they run large, my size is 9.5 medium. At size 9 they are a bit narrow in the toe , and a bit wide in the heal, but overall are ok for comfort. Unfortunately there isn't any room for felt pads. They do have a great non slip sole for walking on wet plastic pipe and on boats which was my main goal for these boots, They compare favorably in this regard with another boot commonly used by commercial fishermen and dock workers, at significant less cost, and they are a tough boot. Two more inches in height would be a great asset.

    I purchased these boots for my husband, who has taken up sailing. After reading the reviews, I was nervous that they would be much too large and wide for him as he is tall and slender with narrow calves and many people commented that these boots ran large and wide. However, I contacted Helly Hansen customer service by phone and they were super helpful. The customer service representative confirmed that they do run a full size large and when I told her that my husband normally wears a 10.5 she told me to order the 9.5. I followed her suggestion and the fit was perfect!! The tops of the boots are definitely wide but they nicely accommodate my husband's sailing overalls (not something I was even thinking about when choosing a boot!). He is very happy with them.
