Product Description

Innovation and tradition share equally deep roots at SCARPA, a muti-generational, family-owned business whose headquarters and manufacturing facilities are in the same region of northern Italy where it was founded in 1938. SCARPA builds performance footwear for climbing, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trail-running and other outdoor pursuits. Aside from being the Italian word for "shoe," SCARPA is an acronym for Societa Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area).

Once Great Boot....

Once Great Boot....
I am now looking for another pair of these boots after 5 years of use, if it wasn't for my lack of attention to the condition of the leather they probably would have lasted longer. For the first three years they were my footwear of choice with heavy use which decreased when I moved to the middle east due to the heat. Hopefully they haven't changed this winning formula. ---- Feedback after receiving these boots They changed the winning formula, what the heck have they done to my once beloved boot... they look and feel cheap. The sole feels and looks like something you would get on a $100 boot, the lace and lace loops are simplified and lower quality than the old school ones, the leather tongue on the boot is very thin with the back of the boot at the top is very soft and delicate.... At this point I don't believe these boots will last a year let alone the 5 my previous boots did. Its like SCARPA caved to those that want a boot which is almost ready to wear out of thr box rather than the rugged boot from 5 years ago which required a few weeks of solid use before they molded to your feet. To add insult to injury the soles have air bubbles in them highlighting the poor quality and the boots looked scuffed as if they were a demo pair from somewhere. The boots arrived prelaced which also leads me to believe they were used somewhere else. Gutted -- boots are being returned abd Im looking for my next pair of quality boots.

This is the best hiking/backpacking shoe on the market for the price! It is not too stiff and very comfortable to wear with very little break in needed. It fits narrow as many European makes (Romania) fit and reminds me a lot of my old REI Raichle boots. I own two pair. Buy a 1/2 size larger than your normal shoe.

This review is based on between 80 and 100 miles of hiking in spring and summer conditions in New Mexico. The boots are relatively "traditional" in their appearance, but modern amenities lie beneath the surface. They are astonishingly light compared to my many-years-old Scarpa boots from the days when they were made in Italy. (These are made in Romania.) They are also more nimble than their appearance would suggest on uneven, rough, steep trails where lots of care has to be taken with rocks and big steps up and down. My sense is that something will be lost in terms of the almost indestructible nature of my old boots, but they were heavy enough to take a toll on how you feel after a full day of hiking with considerable elevation changes, but the new boots leave you feeling surprisingly good at the end of the end of the day. Nubuck may not be as bullet-proof as thicker versions of leather, but it still has the advantage of being more resistant to various prickle and cactus pokes than mesh fabrics and it doesn't collect any of the tiny fragments of desert debris--which includes minuscule cactus of spines--that can later end up in your fingers as you handle your shoes. I'm not counting on them to last so long I get sick of them, and so far my feet have been grateful for them.
UPDATE: After quite a lot of walking and switching back and forth between these Scarpas and a pait of Vasque boots, I find myself going more often for the more nimble Vasques. These Scarpas would still be the ticket for many situations where a strong, stable boot is needed, but on extremely rough, rocky with a lot of wild stepping and steep up and down, they aren't quite as nimble as I'd like. That said, I'm still using them for the right purposes, and they shine.

Feel like I scored a home run. I usually wear a ladies 8.5 wide. I had to go to the men's boots to get the correct width. Size 40 in both Men's and Women's was the correct length. These are truly D width in a women's size, the guys may find this boot a bit snug if they are on the wider side of a D. Especially if using thick socks. These are very nice fitting well made light hiking boots for my feet. I am not sure if I would want to run trails in them, but I suppose you could. The hardware is solid, the leather is smooth, flexible, great quality with a waxy pull up type of finish (you can rub out scuffs with fingers). The leather was not effected in any way when walking through standing water and no water reached my feet. The padded tongue and gussets are high enough for the height of the boot. You would be surprised how many are not. The construction seems to be perfect and even. The insides are a smooth, tough material with strategic padding. Do not feel hot on. Had to replace the insert with one that had more arch support. The insert it came with seems to be high quality, as it is backed with a felt (wool?) 1/8th inch pad that was unusual and nice. If it had a bit of arch support it would have been perfect. The back of the boot flexes and places no pressure on the achilles tendon. All of this fit without any break in to speak of. They remind me of my old Italian made Sundowners, with a different style of Vibram sole. I hope they last as long. I could not be happier with these boots.

I have to say these boots are so comfortable and probably need no real break-in time. I don't think you could ask for a better experience in putting a pair of boots on for the first time. Maybe they are not meant for hardcore adventures, but if you want a comfortable and pleasurable footwear these boots just may be what you want. I also had a bad experience with a pair of Danner Boots. These boots are total redemption.

Been wearing these boots for about a week now and they are finally getting broke in and feeling good. When ordering I had to go by the European size to get the correct size. I may update this review after I wear them through a summer of hiking.

Had this style Scarpa many years ago. Not made in Italy anymore but still wonderful. Very light weight and comfortable out of the box. I had to go up a size as the toe box area is a little cramped as I have heard from others. Once I had a little extra length in the toe box I was ready to hit the trail. I recommend getting a size larger than you typically use. Amazon's return policy is very easy and quick to deal with. I had the correct size on the way to me the same day. I wore my first pair many years for every day work shoes in an office. Looking forward to many more years from these.

I've owned five pairs of these boots and can't fault them. They fit perfectly, no blisters, even with cheap thin socks, breathe well, dry quickly and are super SUPER comfortable. Last pair lasted around 4 years with regular, almost daily use on hard terrain. I've got a weak ankle which is well supported by the boot without being constraining. Best boots I've ever owned.
