Not even close to 6E width!
1 out of 5 stars
Not even close to 6E width!
The mens 10.5 "6E" actually measure in at a size 11 EE at 4.25 inches across. 6E should measure 4.625 inches, this is not even close! These are actually slightly narrower than my Merrel 11W. This is very deceptive and disappointing.

I agree with other reviews on many points. One thing I have seen in a couple of reviews as a con are the thick laces. I would like to point out that I believe that this is an intentional design element. The thick laces actually lock in the hooks and rings so that they do not slide changing the fit. I create an exact fit by varying tightness and looseness on my foot. In my case, I have a ridiculously wide foot, with a very high arch and an average ankle. With most high-top shoes and boots that let the laces slip, if I leave the laces fairly loose over the arch but tight on the ankle, after a short amount of walking the tension equals out. This means that the ankles are then too loose, allowing my heel to lift, or the laces are causing the shoes to dig in over the arch and are too tight on my toes. This slip does not occur with the thick laces locking in the hooks and rings. You will find that most running shoes have a second set of lace holes at the top for creating a lock knot that serves a similar purpose. For me, this is an important feature. Your mileage may vary.

With that out of the way, I think these are an exceptional boot. As well they should be at this price point. This is the most I have ever paid for a shoe, but some things are worth what they cost and this is one of them. I have a difficult foot to fit in any shoe and could not find anything in a hiking style boot in my size. They make a great motorcycle boot. I ride year-round in desert temperatures as high as 120 f (49 c) and these are the most comfortable foot wear I have used. They offer protection from the extreme engine and pavement heat when stopped with sufficient air flow when moving to beat any leather sneaker or tactical boot I have tried.

I bought them in preparation for a vacation trip to Ireland on the recommendation to have good waterproof, warm, comfortable and sturdy shoes. That was a tall order to fill, especially with my wide foot and desire to also be cool enough for summer riding. I am pleased to report that these boots were as dry and comfortable in the rain and mud as on a desert summer ride. Additionally, I have gotten them caked in mud they clean up to look nearly new by just hosing them off and a little scrubbing with a firm plastic bristle brush. I did this with them on my feet without the water soaking through. They might let water in if you are standing in it deep enough for long enough, but I stayed dry. And they definitely wick away sweat when it is warm.

The soles are rugged enough for good traction everywhere that I have used them, (including the slippery, rough terrain on rainy days at the Giant’s Causeway & Cliffs of Moher). They offer good stability but the shoe is surprisingly light for all of that. Another point in their favor is that they are quiet. They do not squeak or have a loud click on tile or vinyl. They are quieter than my running sneakers on tile though not as quiet as a soft soled shoe, but they don’t leave marks or scuffs. The insoles that came with the boot are quite comfortable. I replaced them with ABEO orthotics to give me a more precise fit, but probably didn’t need to. The extra depth from the removable soles is perfect for this.

As with other high durability boots, there is a breaking in period. I believe the instructions that came in the box recommended wearing them for shorter periods of time at first and building up. Somewhat impractical, but I did wear them around the house for a few hours the first couple of times before giving them a whole day on my feet. I was concerned at first that they did cause some pressure pain at the top of my foot at the arch. But they are light and the sole was springy and comfortable all day long. After a week of regular wear, I was more than content with the fit. After a month, I wouldn’t let you take them from me and I will be ordering another pair in black next time. I just wish the black was all black instead of having the white stitching and pattern on the ventilated material. I would prefer something a little more subtle.

I wear a 9 5E in regular dress shoe and 10 4E in distance running shoe for the extra-large toe box. The 9 6E was the right fit for me after a break in period. After 8 months of use, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

    Pros:
    Value
    Wide fit
    Water proof
    Locking laces
    Warm in cold weather
    Relatively cool in hot weather

    Cons:
    Price
    Some break in time required
Wish the black was all black

    5 week review:
So these boots are just straight up expensive. I hesitated purchasing them sight unseen because of that. They appealed to me because I have very wide feet and I needed an everyday boot solution and my options are limited. I finally pulled the trigger and have been wearing the 10.5 6E boots for about 5 weeks. So far they are fantastic. My only issue was my ankles were getting sore at first because the lace hooks up around the ankle are very narrow and don’t allow any movement of the laces through the lace hook which caused pain because the ankle portion of the boot wouldn’t flex with the movement of my foot. I remedied this by purchasing a pair of elastic lock laces which are narrow and flex nicely with the movement of my foot. As far as I am concerned now the boots fit perfect and are more comfortable than any boot I have worn in the past decade, and I wear boots every single day 10+ hours. The only thing I wish was better was their wet traction. They are a bit slippery on wet concrete.

It's really hard to find shoes for wide feet (I'm 11.5 6E). These fit good, the workmanship was good but I'm trying to limit my "Made in China" purchases and wish these were made anywhere else.

I’ve worn Drew shoes for years. Most shoes wear out quickly leaving me with aching knees and ankles, but Drew. The boot looks good and wears well. I’ll buy again when the time comes.

On the plus side, these boots are quite lightweight. On the con side, they are not at all waterproof. They also run quite narrow. I've been using a stretcher on them for a month. The laces press painfully into the fronts of my ankles because they are hardly padded at all. The upper lace hook rivets are not padded or even covered in any way so the rivets painfully dig into the sides of my ankles. I have applied various makeshift pads. The fronts are thin Nubuck and are easily torn by rocks on hikes. For a pretty expensive boot, these are extremely disappointing. I won't be buying Drew products again.

Great hiking boots. I am reviewing these as 4E width hiking boots. Just completed an extremely rugged, rocky trail hike. Lots of sharp rocks and uneven muddy trail. These came through as needed and as hoped for.
These run too short. Buy the next 1/2 size up. (I wear a 9 4E in U.S. lasted shoes but need 9.5 in this boot.)
    PROS:
Only hiking boots I have found available in 4E width with a decent lug sole.
Very good rock resistant hard sole.
Double foot bed insert. (Helpful only if you want to swap out thin for thick socks. Adding or removing an insert will have very little or no affect on length or width.
    Light weight.
Extra height tongue. The laces will never ride up on your instep.
They ventilate well and stay cool.
    CONS:
Supplied laces are too thick for the hooks.
D loops are square wire instead of round. Makes tightening needlessly difficult.
Expensive, BUT find another pair in 4E this good.

So far these have been great! Put 20 miles on them last weekend, which was far more than usual as I was teaching a class on ladders. Compared to the year before when I was in regular boots, feet felt much better. Still had rubbing on my big toe, but suspect that was more from the socks than the boots themselves, so I would certainly recommend these.
