I thought these boots would be similar to the Nike or Rocky lightweight / running shoe feel... I was wrong... These boots are very light, the fit is looser than most boots. A very unforgiving insole combined with the loose sizing easily gives blisters. The eyelets for the boot laces started popping out after less than two weeks. I was very disappointed with these boots. Used them for two weeks in the field, didn't stand up against the competition. In the closet they will stay.

This is a good buy. I ordered the EW (extra wide size) because I have a wide foot. At first it was going to be too narrow, but it has losened up nicely. It is an extrememly light boot , and very confortable. I am thinking of putting in a gel sole, but the regular foam sole has done well for now. I would recommend this boot. However, I question its ability to stand up to a rocky terrain because of its lightness. nevertheless, it is a well built boot and a reasonable price. If you have to walk a lot, and/or stand a long time, this is a boot to consider. Again, remember the name, "zero mass", so if you need a heavy duty boot this may not be the one--although I think it is well constructed.
There had bee sone reviews that complained about the length of the laces; I find this not to be a problem. The laces are not as long as the miitary issues, that wrap around, but I like that fact. If you really are dissatisfied with the lenght of the laces, you can easily buy longer ones. The laces provided are a good enough length. Again, I recommend this boot.

I chose this rating because it did not live up to most of my expectations. I wore these boots in Afghanistan for 6-8 months. Definitely not recommended for combat environments! I did read the previous reviews, but wanted to try them out for myself. Just as comfortable as Nike SF Boot. The toe insoles on outside of the boot began to separate from sole! Eyelet separated from boot. Size ran one size too big. I used insoles to fit them properly. Pros were that they were exceptionally comfortable!! Great for EMT/ office LE, not for SWAT or combat ops. More for office/ walking settings. Hope this helps. (Aug13-Apr14)

Wore these for 4 months in tech school. Best buy ever. Lighter than nikes but feel more rugged. Super comfortible and breath great, i could literally run my pt test in these, and i have jogged with a 30lb ruck in these. The suede turns a sandy brown after a month of wear but scrubbing with a regular plastic brush and water or damp cloth works fine. I loved them so much i bought a black zippered pair for civies. Those have held up great for 6 months through hiking and tons of walking. I love these boots but require steel toe for work. If these came with composite/steel toe with a zipper i would pay 200. Worth the money.

These boots fit very comfortable out of the box, are extremely light weight, and the price was unbeatable. I originally bought these boots with the hope that they would be specifically used for the monthly twelve mile ruck marches I participate in at work (military). They are comfortable but you feel every little rock under foot. The soles are not very sturdy as far as long serviceability goes and the leather is very thin, so I would not recommend them for field exercises. The soft rubber soles did not hold up well to fast roping during a recent exercise either. Regarding garrison or parade type events these boots look and feel great and would be ideal. They feel good for ruck marching, but I don't feel they would hold much of a shelf-life during I climate weather or say the rigors of Ranger school. You get what you pay for I guess, I just expected a little more from a name like Bates far as durability.

Got these boots for my new uniform issue. The price was about $100 less than what I would have paid on base. They fit great and have a tennis show feel to them. Also extremely lite weight which is great for being on feet for long period of time. Break in time is very minimum. Must buy.

This is the lightest, coolest boot you’ll find. If you get “hot foot,” this is the cure. If you’re looking for any kind of protection, support or padding, keep on looking. I would say fit is on the wide side; I have duck feet and chicken legs and these fit perfect. Sizing and fit is similar to Dr. Martens originals, but cooler and lighter.

    Bates, please bring these back!
