Our Story

Our Story
In 1863, John A. Frye opened the doors to his very first store, paving the way for countless generations of Frye artisans dedicated entirely to the art of craftsmanship.
The result is beautifully made footwear, bags and accessories with a long and illustrious history. Today that legacy continues with the introduction this fall of Frye’s first-ever apparel collection for men and women.
Rooted in tradition, Frye was originally inspired by our everyday American heroes over the decades. Cavalry infantrymen. World War II soldiers. Fighter pilots. Factory workers. Frye traveled the world on the feet of our servicemen — even General Patton. News of Frye’s outstanding quality and reputation spread. Frye has since become an American icon, outfitting many of the many big names from John Lennon to Jackie O. Chosen for its inimitable style and uncompromising quality, Frye is a longtime favorite of rock stars and celebrities alike.
Frye’s iconic boots have defined eras, embodied social movements, outlasted trends and defied time. Frye captures the essence of timeless American style – the promise of a dream.
That promise is held deep within the DNA of our very own genetic codes. Embedded within our legendary and historic styles remains a wellspring of the promise of adventure, courage and individual freedom. Against the backdrop of the great American landscape, Frye’s place in history is assured. There are many lookalikes but only one Frye. The Original. The Authentic. The Only.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2013Amazing! Took me a couple days to wear in but now they fit like a glove. So comfy!! I'm a woman and am always so weary of buying men's shoes, worried about the fit and the width. Boots are especially difficult as men's boots on women seem blulky. But these look so sleek and sexy on both men and women. Also the white wax coating seems really prominent in the beginning ( when I opened the box it was a shock) but as you wear them it fades. I like how these boots will customize to you as you wear them. They are also hand crafted and the leather smells so so so so good. Mmmmm. Great boot.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2016This boots are very 👯 👯 sexy. I'm not quite sure why the other reviewer says Amazon got it interchanged between the two black colors. I did received the right order and right color. I sized down, thanks to the honest reviews of others here and it's perfect with thin socks. It's a little snug but not too tight, I think it will break in very well. There's some markings in the boots but not noticeable unless you really look.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2016This is my first pair of Chelsea boots.
I've owned riding books--cheap rubber ones, not the the hunt club leather numbers that go for $400-500. Pulling them was no sweat. Levering them off with that wooden clamp that held the heel firm was also no problem. Hosing them off rather than polishing them was a delight.
However Chelsea boots are a new and daunting experience. I've fought them on six times now but never with ease or effortless success.
Unless you can open old fashion bottle caps with your fingers or know some magical technique for donning these boots, you will need to buy a boot hook. They are cheap and for some reason are sold in pairs. (Why I can't understand since putting on two boots at the same time is like doing and back flip and landing into a pair of Levis. Anyhow buy the hook and save yourself dislocating a forefinger. ((Two hooks make sense with cowboy boots and their two tabs.)).)
The leather is dyed and burnished red brown; so it appears to have more character than the other boots I looked at.
I bought these boots because I've always thought they hit a midpoint between rugged and refined, in other words they look handsome.
Handsome is as perhaps handsome does; so we'll see.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2017Really snug at first and took a week or two to break in but they are now my go to shoes for every day. I had thought they would make good dress shoes but they hard to keep polished and my slacks would always get caught on the back pull tab so I would walk around like Major Paine. So now I wear these primarily with jeans. After a few weeks they are super comfortable. Definitely needed leather conditioning as they would absorb any moisture. My one complaint is that the leather sole is really slippery on carpet, tile and almost dangerous in Colorado when there is ice/snow. Although that is probably the case with most leather sole shoes. I did start applying waterproofing on the bottom to minimize absorption when walking in the snow/wet which I really shouldn't do with nice shoes like this but they are so comfortable!
I bought both the black and tan/brown boots for different occasions. Both fit identically and both need the leather conditioner. While the leather conditioner is not noticeable on the black, it definitely made the reddish-tan boots more of a brown which I don't dislike but the original color I thought was exceptional. Also, I noticed the tan/brown shows nicks and scratches much more easily and I end up gravitating to the black for every day wear.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2015I've been wearing Blundstones for years, but found myself always looking at these Frye Chelsea boots . I caught them on sale for 20% off which made the purchase less painful. These boots are definitely an upgrade from the Blundstones. You can tell the leather is higher quality and I think the Frye boot just looks better. I normally wear a 9 and with this boot I need to wear a thicker sock. The leather sole was a little slippery at first, but after you wear them a few times they scuff up and aren't bad. I can't speak for durability because I haven't had them long.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2016The boot fit normally for length and width at front of the foot but way too large / wide at the heel. This boot must have been constructed on a very odd last.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2016After about a week of walking around in these boots, they broke in perfectly. My only gripe is that the quality seems a little weak for a pair of boots that cost $300 retail. Some stitching around the elastic has started to fall out, and some of the elastic has broken as well. All in all, a great looking boot, built fairly well, but not perfect.

They're Frye's. If you know what Frye's are, and they fit, they're worth the money. I've never had a pair of Fryes for less than 4 years. Love these boots, and will buy Frye's again
