update 2/11/19 still wearing these now and then and they are a lot easier to slip into now. Still zips okay, however the zipper seems to be coming apart here and there where it was sewn on and they are still a little tight...might buy a size larger next time.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2014Size: 10.5 WideColor: BlackVerified PurchaseThis was my first purchase of a modern combat/work boot, with my previous pair being a pair a surplus all leather Vietnam-era Wellco jungle combat boots. Now those things are rugged, a little bit clunky and heavy, and damn near invincible although they have worn in well over the years and now fit me like a glove. I've worn them hiking, tactical gaming, to day-long machining shifts, running, lifting, and casually as well and they have given me a pretty good basis for comparison for any new boot that I buy. Now onto these Ridge Footwear Dura-Max boots.
I purchased these with Amazon's WRKBOOTS $15 off promotion hoping for a bit of a modernization of what I'd been wearing but with similar features and a side zipper to get in and out easily. The loops for the laces were of particular importance to me since they resembled the ones on my Wellco's and I wanted to retain the speedlace ability to pull on the laces looped near the middle and tighten up the entire lower at once as well as the ease and speed with which I could lace up and loosen up overall. This is where I found my first and probably my biggest gripe. The lace loops, while similar in appearance to my Wellco's were of vastly inferior quality and workmanship. They fit the laces too tightly, looked attached cheaply and were crooked in some cases, and even worse, snagged the laces as I tightened them the first time I put the boots on, leaving many unsightly pulled-out loops and strands on the laces themselves. The rest of the build quality was just ok and the fit was great (I got 10.5 for these and I wear 10.5 in Nikes and Vans) but the cheapness and sloppiness of the lace loops left a sour taste in my mouth and I saw that while the build quality was generically good, it wasn't exceptional and this is where the Made-in-China quality really showed (believe me, I'm Chinese and I'm pretty ashamed of some of the cheap crap my people put out for a quick penny, which is pretty much their sole motivation for doing anything). There wasn't anything critically wrong with the boots but they just didn't reek of the ruggedness and quality I had come to expect after wearing my American-made Wellco's almost daily for the past 4 years. I ended up returning these and buying a pair of Bate's gtx-9 Deltas and I can tell you that the vastly superior quality, features, and Vibram sole with 2-year warranty immediately won me over. I expect my gear to last me years and until my Bates do, I won't be truly convinced by any modern boots. Who knows, I might just go to the surplus store, get another pair of all leather Wellco's (the ONLY flaw with my current pair is that I bought half a size too large) for 1/5 the price of the Bates and toss in a pair of Dr. Scholl's insoles and call it a day. Heck, they'll probably outlive me too. After all, they don't make them like they used to! Thanks for reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2016These were purchased for my 10 year old son. He wears a men's 7.5. We found them to be true to size. They are well made, look great and pretty rugged. He loves them and wore them all day for several days in a row, without complaint. He said they are very comfortable. He also has a slightly wide foot.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2015Size: 11 WideColor: BlackVerified PurchaseWhile on duty making an arrest in the rain, my left foot was soaked while wearing a boot I came to trust after a year of wear. The back of the boot separated or became unglued from the sole. I had to buy Krazy Glue to do a quick repair for the rest of my tour. I don't know if I got a pair of defective boots or if the whole line is defective but I shouldn't have to buy glue after spending $83. Normal wear for this type of "durable" boot shouldn't make them pop open at the heel. I need a pair of boots I can trust when on duty and it's not Ridge footwear boots
