    Once upon a time Hush Puppies made a standard model casual/dress shoe, suede, available in either tan or charcoal. Once upon a time pretty much any town of more than 5000 people featured a couple of shoe stores, at least one of which would carry said Hush Puppies. Well, times have changed, the old Hush Puppies are gone, and good luck finding an actual bricks-and-mortar shoe store in your town.

    These are the first shoes I've ever purchased without first trying them on. I am not impressed with the process, but buying over the Web, what else are you going to do? I almost gave these shoes two stars, but I didn't want to ding the product too badly for issues that have more to do with the purchase process.

    For starters, the size was not as expected. I wear US size 10-1/2, and often get 11 to have a little more room in the toe; these size 11's fit me, but without a milimeter to spare. The alleged "D" width is more like a "C" -- fortunately the suede material will probably stretch out some with wear.

    Stylistically, I was hoping for something sort of like the old Hush Puppies foam-sole casual/dress shoes. What I got was something more like a pair of leather sneakers. There are no heels on these, just flat corrugated plastic soles. The soles actually seem to be a little thicker towards the toe which, combined with the lack of heels tend to give the uncomfortable feeling of leaning backwards while walking. The laces were rawhide, which I couldn't keep tied, so I replaced them with regular shoelaces.

    These shoes may be just perfect for somebody (especially if what you're looking for are leather sneakers), but they weren't right for me. And even if you think they are right for you, I'd advise ordering a half-size larger, and one width wider than you think you need, or you're going to end up with some -tight- shoes.

    Bottom line: priced just high enough to make me regret the purchase, but just low enough to not make it worth my while to send them back. Oh well... buying shoes without being able to try them on just seems like a -bad- idea.

I went to the local Nordstrom and they only carry this shoe on-line. A hidden gem. Purchase this boot, and go in comfort.

    It's a comfortable shoe that I didn't expect to be very comfortable. It also looks very stylish. The only downside is that the 13 was a bit big on me. I can't fit into any 12s either so it would be great if there was a 12.5. Also more of a personal note, I am not a big fan on how hot your feet can get in leather or suede.
