    I ordered (via Amazon Prime) desert boots from Clarks, Nunn Bush, and Bass; these Bass were the clear winners. My shoe size is 9B, and the 9M in the Bass is a perfect fit for me. However, I can tell that they run a bit narrow -- so if you have a wider foot, you may not be happy.

    The reasons I chose Bass over the others:

    The overall construction is slightly stiffer in the toe and the sides, so the shoe feels more substantial and gives more ankle support. They aren't stiff, they're very comfortable; they just feel more like a shoe instead of a slipper.

    I like the styling of these -- the extra stitching along the top, and the contrast stitching along the top of the sole looks really classy, imho. I bought these for nights out in my tiny, funky town, so I didn't want something in the style family of my hiking boots.

    The arch and sole of the Bass felt (to me) more sturdy, more "there" than the others I tried. I was surprised how much nicer, tougher, and classier the Bass are, considering they're $15-20 cheaper than the others -- but I'm certainly not complaining. :-)

    We all know chukkas can get extremely expensive due to brand names and materials, but lets face it.. no one wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of shoes. These shoes fit great and look great. They go very well with jeans and any type of shirt. Just like any suede, i recommend spraying them with suede protector.

    The only prob I have w/ these shoes is they are a little heavier than I expected. I owned a pair of chukkas when I was in college, and they were pretty floppy, very comfortable, and went well w/ Levi's and no sox. But times change...these boots are just fine, just a little sturdy, wh/means I can use them w/ my motorcycle. Maybe not so great w/out sox, a little stiff/sturdy as I said, but we'll see. They also have a hole or 2 more to lace than my old floppies, but that's OK.

    I was worried the tips were too pointy, but I elected to give it a shot as I like the suede, color, fit and heel height (which is just enough). I work in laboratories and need to wear leather shoes. So I was looking for something in the chukka shoe family that has an edge to it but also something I can work in all day. Appears to meet all my needs and the pointed toe has grown on me, especially after they have broken in and showing some wear on the suede. I may put some anatomical inserts for added comfort, but that ought to do it.
