These boots look great!! As I expected, Dan Post makes a very comfortable and very well constructed boot. The leather insole has a nice comfortable cushion, yet durable. The Bay Apache color actually looks quite a bit nicer than what's pictured on Amazon. The caiman skin is a little darker...Almost looks a little burnished, which I love. Both of my Dan Post Post boots have a soft leather upper, which adds to the comfort (vs a stiff upper which many cheaper boots tend to use).

Hopefully this next bit of advice will help future buyers.....When I first got these boots, they were quite snug. So much so that I almost returned them to Amazon, but I was assured by another reviewer that the boots would stretch and be comfortable after a few wears. Well....after my first day I panicked a little because the right boot was almost unwearable by the end of the day. I ended up inserting a one-size -up (XL vs L), full-toe cedar shoe tree into the boot. Don't use the expandable kind just yet...Use the full-toe. This REALLY helped break in the boot faster, and my second full day was MUCH better. After the boots are fully broke in, I'll revert to an expandable cedar shoe tree. I also used Bick 4 on the boots....This too helped soften the skin and expedite the break-in process. I realize the caiman skin purists will suggest I should be using a special gator skin conditioner, but the Bick 4 works great. An "expert" told the Bick 4 will create a haze of some sort on the hide, but this hasn't happened on my boots.

One other thing I noticed with these caiman skin boots....the leather has quite a bit of "texture" on both outside and inside the boot. Even though these Dan Post's are leather lined, the texture of the hide initially created some irritation around the pinkie toe. But after a night of the over-sized shoe tree, this irritation has gone away.

All of this said, I love these boots! I work in a professional office setting that allows jeans everyday. Lots of compliments already. BUT, be patient thru the break-in process and you'll be pleased. Feel comfortable ordering your normal shoe/boot size and the boots will break-in quite nicely.

This is my second pair of Dan Post boots, and I love both pairs (first pair is Ostrich). I also own a pair of Lucchese goat, and a pair of Frye biker boots. The Lucchese's are also awesome, but the Frye boots absolutely su*k.

Depending upon where you look, some online vendors want almost $500 for these boots, and most sell them for between $350 and $450. The bricks and mortar western shops want $450 plus, then add tax. With the 20% discount I just got from Amazon, I got them for only $220.00 with two-day shipping included! Thank You Amazon! Sorry guys, I got the last pair sold directly by Amazon in 11-D, unless they reorder.

Now for the review. If you have been shopping these boots around, you, like me, will have been amazed at how the color of the boots shift depending upon which site you look at, and you will have also noticed that in some photos the bottom half of the boot is light and the top dark, while the next site shows a boot that is just the opposite. For what it's worth, mine came in with what I consider the true Bay Apache color, a medium to light brown with a bit of rust, more or less exactly as pictured on the Amazon webpage. The Caiman leather bottom is darker than the kid leather upper, which is a lighter brown, with almost a suede feel to the leather. The Caiman leather on the front of the boot is very soft and supple with just the right amount of give across the instep and vamp. The leather on the upper is the the softest and most flexible I have ever come across in a western boot and helps lighten up the weight of the boot. They weigh 24 ounces apiece, which is about four ounces lighter than my every day kicks. They are not shiny out of the box other than the natural shine of the caiman leather, and while I suppose you could polish the caiman to a high shine like lizard skin, they look fantastic just the way they are. The construction and finish are what you would expect of a $450 pair of boots. The fit is glove perfect and feel broken in right out of the box.

I own boots by a couple of other boot makers, but Dan Post will be my boot maker from this day forward. If my wife would let me, I would probably wear these to bed tonight!

All around great boot, excellent workmanship & design. Unlike other boots I've had, the caiman skin covers the entire shoe part, not just the front. Leather and stitching in good shape when I got it.

Toe design excellent, minimizes foot size yet not too pointy, sole hugs the outline of foot as it should, doesn't extend too far and so avoids "sidewalk" around the foot.

Only complaint (and reason I withhold the fifth star) is that it gives a bit of ankle irritation from where the shoe and upper part are sewn together, so far have fixed that by wearing longer thick socks, will see if this problem stays or goes away with age. Long sock works so far. If this problem disappears then the boots merit a full 5 stars.

I bought two pairs of boots at the same time. These Cayman's and the Teju Lizard in Black cherry. For the past 6 months i rotate the boots so i'm either wearing one or the other. I have to warn you, these boots were not comfortable initially. I started to wear them with running ankle socks but there was a seam in the inside of the foot that feels pretty well covered up from the inside of the boot but it was digging, i mean digging into the inside of my foot. I settled for some thick work boot socks and forced myself to wear the boots as long as i could. After about the 3rd or 4th day success. They weren't digging anymore. Now 6 months later and they fit like a glove. i can wear them all day no problem. Don't get me wrong, it didn't take 6 months, it only took maybe a week to break them in and i wore them ALL the time. Now it depends on my mood but i can wear them with running ankle socks. They look and feel great. The only other problem is that i wore them so much the stitching around the ball of the foot has been shredded and the sole was coming apart. I just dropped them off at the boot repair place and he said it's a common problem with boots. He said i don't need new soles just glue and more stitching. About a 20 buck charge. So be prepared to keep the soles maintained.
