- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2016Let me start by saying I ordered these for my job and not hunting- my job requires me to walk long distances and over dense vegetation, rip rap, through water, and to climb in manholes. I've only worn these boots twice but I am in love. However, these only fit as expected because I read other reviews indicating that they ran small so I ordered a half size up and that was perfect. They are stiff and will rub when you first get them but mine were not unbearable; unlike multiple previous reviews I read. Yes, they are completely waterproof up to the tongue dip (a few inches from the top of the boot) as I tested it out while wearing them for work by standing in a creek. You can feel the cool of the water on your feet but rest assured it's only the coolness and not your feet getting soaked. They have good ankle support and are surprisingly breathable in hot weather. These are my go to summer boots for sure.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2014Got these for early season hunting as snakes still active till first frost. Read plenty of reviews but didn't have the same luck as some. Fit was good but breakin is required. Mine pinch at ankel bone but this will work out after shaping (had this with other Danner Snake Boots too). I use a 4" PVC coupling in each ankle, lace the boot tightly, wrap with "ace" bandage and soak the outside with water. Set in sun to dry and ankle area conforms to round shape-no more pinch. The low lug sole is perfect for my area( S/centeral Ga.) as it picks up less clay in damp areas but maintains traction. Also less noisy on stand platforms where deep lugs get caught in expanded metal floors. Overall, excellent quality boot for excellent price.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2016These boots are as advertised. Based on some comments about the size running small, I bought a 12 and had to return and exchange for my usual 11.5 D which fit perfectly. The other reviews were correct: The boots are very stiff in the ankles out of the box, but soaking them in really hot water and wearing them until they cooled worked well and remedied the issue. They are wonderfully water-proof. I forded a river and crossed ditches in them. When Danner says "uninsulated" they really mean uninsulated. And when they say "sneaker like sole" they mean that too. The boots provide great agility and traction and are VERY quiet in the woods. The down side is that when walking more than a few miles on stone roads, you begin to feel every stone, just like a sneaker. The camo is fantastic for turkey hunting. As far as the snake proof claims, well I have not yet put them to the test but I was in plenty of places last week that looked "snakey" and it was a comfort to have these on. Overall, fabulous boots, as advertised, and I am very happy with the purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2013I've been holding off writing this review, until I had enough information to maybe make a difference for someone that is stuck on the fence as I was before making that $200 plunge. The first point I'd like to make, as others have, is these do appear to run small. When I say 'appear', I mean that for me, most brands run big by comparison, so these are actually spot on where they should be. Compared to say, Rockys, these are atleast 1/2" shorter, AND considerably narrower, which for me, means the 10.5D's I ordered, actually FIT me for a change. This is the 3rd time ordering to find *the* boots for me, and I wish I'd went with Danners the 1st (or even 2nd) time, as the same size in 2 different pair of Rockys swallowed my feet. I took the time before returning the second set of Rockys (pro lites) to overlay the footbeds, and took side by side pix to get a true representation of the length and width differences. It's actually hard to comprehend they both carry the same size (I'll try to get those posted in user images).
Now, to more Danner specific stuffs.... These things are great, IF you realize what you're getting. They're basically really tall high-top sneakers (full 18" @ front) with heavy duty uppers, that are unbelievably lightweight. I wouldn't worry about a rattler getting through the uppers at all personally. The soles themselves are fairly thin by the way, if you pull the footbeds/underlayment. While great for stalking, they won't think about stopping a mesquite thorn. I wear heavy custom arch supports with mine for several reasons, the top of which being protection from those sharp, pointy things that can really ruin a week.
So far, these seem to be 100% waterproof, up to the tongue split of course, being about 15" or so. The speed lace lugs are a breeze to deal with, especially when using custom lacing techniques (I double wrap/crossover at the ankle to effectively isolate the foot lacing from the upper). They will be stiff when you unbox them, and do have an above average break-in compared to leather, but its soooo worth it when they do break in a few days. Something that may help some of those having trouble getting these to fit......Try either standing in hot water a couple of inches above the ankles, or using a shower hose to soak them (sans the insides). Do this with the boots laced *tight*, and I mean uncomfortably so. Give that a good 5 or so minutes, then loosen the laces some and walk them dry, doing whatever to really flex and stress the ankle area in every direction. After putting mine through this procedure twice over a couple of days, they FIT to the point that I fall asleep in them. Comfortable just doesn't describe it..... Mine are on my feet atleast 2-4 days a week, for 8+ hour stretches, no real complaints here, other than not ordering a pair sooner! They're really nice for long rides on the Harley also.
Remember, they *do* run small by most standards these days, which worked out great for me. Anyone else, consider a half-size larger, and definitely go wider if a typical D fits you snug to start with. Again, these are more hyper-tall sneakers than 'boots' in a way, but do seem *extremely* well constructed, truly waterproof, not too hot, and well worth the price. They're an excellent example of "don't leave home without these...." or "pry 'em from my comfortable, dry feet". ;-)
About the only reason I'm docking a star is for the thinner than expected soles....I would have liked to seen some heavier material, or maybe some reinforcement in the footbed, especially in the arch. Other than that, no one is perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2013I didn't get bit by a snake yet and i hope that i never do but these boots are fantastic. the goretex keep my feet dry even fully submerged up to the tops they are light weight and bend so you dont get blisters walking. the heavy stiff boots hurt my knees and make me exhusted. One consideration is in South GA when you put on some tall sock with tall boots your legs are going to sweat like crazy they are hot.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2014I loved the boots, well constructed but they say they are wide sized but didn't fit my EE foot. Had an issue sending them back with vendor but that's not the boots fault.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2018Very waterproof, but they don't seem to be softening up despite multiple wearings. Not sure I could wear these all day in the outdoors.
